G is for Good Times

This photo was taken at my friend Jamie's 30th birthday party. I love that it's such a childish image from what is, for all intents and purposes, and adult milestone. It was taken in the late evening, and I love that the darkness it apparent. The camera was in shutter priority and I believe I had it set to 1600, but it may have been 3200.

G is. . . Going to be late

Sorry guys, haven't forgotten, and I have what I hope is a cute idea for G. Time restrictions have hampered my ability to take ANY photos this last week, but I will try to get a photo up before I leave on Friday for my vacation (and with that time off, many opportunities to get a good "I" and "K")

F is for Farmer's Fields

The canola fields across the countryside are just in full force right now and look so beautiful. I love the yellow sea of flowers stretching out over the fields. This canola field is just behind my house and continues on down my road. 

I decided to get some shots tonight before the light faded. Oh boy did the mosquitos like me though! I'm itchy. 

The only downfall to these lovely yellow seas is when the farmer that owns them decides to do his crop dusting before 8am on a Sunday. All I heard first thing Sunday morning was the buzzing of an airplane constantly flying over the house. 

Oh you know you're in the country when....

E is for Explosive

This photo was taken on July 4th in Warroad, MN. My country home in Sprague, Manitoba is a really short drive to the towns of Warroad and Rosseu in Minnesota. I happened to be in the country for the 2009 July 4th festivities and MAN do Americans know how to celebrate their independence. Warroad has a population of about 1700, and their fireworks show put to shame our Canada Day efforts in Winnipeg, whose population is nearly 700,000.

I captured this photo using my 18-55 kit lens on my Nikon D300, in Shutter priority mode. I really lucked out that the combination of the water reflections and the fireworks themselves was bright enough that my lack of tripod didn't hinder me at all. I got other amazing shots this same evening using my Sigma 55-200 lens, but switched to the kit lens to get a wider scope on the scene, including the reflections.

D is for Decaying

I have wanted to photograph this rusted out old van for awhile now. Since it's in its decaying stages I decided it was perfect for my letter "d" photo. It's located in the quadding trails behind our house. The quadding trails- known in the neighbourhood as the "gravel pits"- have all sorts of junk and a real mish-mash of things. Abandoned cars, bits of old roofing, and various other garbage, along with beautiful trees and rolling green hills that have been converted into quadding and dirt bike trails. My guess is that this place used to be the garbage dump or something but then has since been converted to its natural habitat again. The pits are actually quite beautiful now that they're all green and things are in bloom though. It's really deceiving. The ducks and even beavers seem to like to live in its standing waters. Strange but true. 

I went by quad to this old van and the evening light was just starting to turn that brilliant "orangey" glow. It hit off the green grass and made the rusted piece of junk look kinda pretty I think, bringing the red out against the green grass. 

C is for Citrus

This was always the plan for the letter "c" and I'm beyond thrilled with how it turned out, in spite of the fact that my mother stole the lemon I was planning to use. The props for this photoshoot were just a lime, orange and grapefruit, and following the session, the bits were mixed with some Stash Blueberry tea and put in my fridge for a fruity iced tea.

I used a beautiful old table my mom found in the garbage somewhere as my backdrop, and did the whole photoshoot in my backyard on this fabulous July day.

B is for Barefoot

For my letter "B" I chose this image of sand covered "bare feet" at the beach. My niece Emily makes a good subject. She's just so damn cute! The image was taken at Victoria Beach.
